Meet the Team
Sungjoon Choo, President
Korea International School, Class of 2025
My deep commitment to supporting struggling communities is one of my core values. In South Korea, where the visually impaired represent one of the largest disability groups, I have found a fulfilling purpose in engaging with these individuals through meaningful interactions. Over the past four years, I have dedicated myself to writing articles that raise awareness and organizing events aimed at fostering an inclusive community in a society that can often be ableist. I am always eager to help the visually impaired and remain dedicated to being an active part of this community throughout my life.

One of my greatest passions is using art to make a difference in the lives of others. Growing up in South Korea, I’ve become acutely aware of the challenges faced by the visually impaired, who represent a significant portion of the country’s disabled population. Over the past four years, I’ve found my voice and purpose through art, creating pieces that reflect the beauty and strength of this community. These experiences have shaped me into someone who deeply values empathy, creativity, and the power of visual storytelling. I’m excited to continue this journey and remain committed to making a positive impact for years to come.

I am an active debater both within and outside of school, committed to helping marginalized members of society. Through my years of public speaking experience, I have gained the courage and dedication to spend countless hours supporting the visually impaired community alongside my peers. Over the past three years of high school, I have written several articles to raise awareness about environmental issues, politics, and the challenges faced by vulnerable populations. I am passionate about continuing my efforts to support the visually impaired community to the best of my ability.

I would say that one of my strongest qualities is my commitment to helping communities in need. Currently, in South Korea, one of the largest groups facing challenges everyday is the visually impaired, who are often overlooked. I have a strong passion for assisting these individuals by making meaningful interactions with them, such as guiding them around or even having engaging conversations with them. Over the past year, I have tried my best to spread awareness about their struggles by writing articles, knowing that it can help contribute to creating a more inclusive society. Working with these people makes me feel fulfilled and inspired; therefore, I will always be ready to help them out.

Korea International School, Class of 2027
My primary purpose of volunteering for the visually impaired, one of the largest disability groups, is to help them undergo the same experiences as unimpaired people would and support them in any way possible. I am always passionate about helping these people and raising awareness about the daily struggles they face. Although I have only been writing articles and participating in several events to support the visually impaired for about a year, I am always eager to be able to assist them in their everyday lives.

I am deeply interested in helping and volunteering for the community and making a difference to the world. My hobbies are playing sports and communicating with others. In South Korea there are 250,000 visually impaired citizens of Korea and this is a critical subject to communicate with. Over the past few years, I have devoted myself to raising awareness by using my hobby, sports, as a tool to communicate and support people that are visually impaired. Especially volunteering and actually attending the tournaments of showdown, a table hockey-like sport, helped me being an active part of this community and assist those with visual impairments.

My love and passion for any contending group are definitely one of my positive characteristics. In South Korea, I was able to help the visually impaired community. Helping these visually impaired communities through sports is one of the activities that I am eager about. Past two years, I have continued supporting the visually impaired community and I recently started writing short articles about how I felt while helping them, and what I learned from the visually impaired people. I am always happy to help the visually impaired and ready at any time whenever they need help.

One of my strongest values is my commitment to supporting communities in need, especially those facing challenges. Over the past four years, I’ve been dedicated to volunteering for the blind people in South Korea. Through my experiences, I’ve had the privilege of assisting those individuals by providing them companionship and participating in many community events with them. As the years passed, I’ve not only fallen in love with hanging out with the blind but also developed many helpful traits such as empathy and compassion. I hope to foster an inclusive community for all and I am always willing to help for the blind and for those who are in need.

If I were to describe myself, I would say that I am an altruistic person, and this explains why I am passionate about helping people—especially those who are in need of help. To further spread my passion, I decided to join seesaw to collaborate with other students who have the same ambition of enthusiastically supporting the community in need of support—visually impaired people. Besides my eagerness to be an assistant to everyone, music is also something that has been part of me for a very long time. Inspired by my mother who majored in piano, I am a Flute player and a musical singer. I believe music is another language that is capable of breaking any barriers such as gender, race, and religion which at the end, form a unity. Through my music performances, my hope is to allow people to find sanctuary for a moment in their busy lives.

All throughout my life, I’ve found that helping and aiding those in need as well as competing in ventures are quite engaging and cathartic activities, and I believe that the greatest way to let those in need feel included and content is to join them in activities both parties find pleasure in; in the case for Seesaw, I’ve found that playing showdown with visually impaired individuals allows for a greater understanding of their struggles and desires all the while allowing everyone to have a fun and engaging time. Because of both my desire to bring a smile upon the visually impaired as well as my competitive nature driving me to pursue victory, I will continue to be an avid member of the community.

One of my strongest traits is my passion for helping communities that are struggling. In South Korea, one of the largest disability groups is the visually impaired, and supporting them is something I’m deeply committed to. Over the past year, I’ve been actively writing articles to raise awareness and organizing events to help build a more inclusive community in a society that can often overlook those with disabilities. I'm always eager to assist the visually impaired and am ready to be a part of their community for the rest of my life.

Though I might still be young, I definitely am passionate and committed to help the communities that need help in our society. I have been new to this idea of showdown games, where we are in the perspective of a blind person, and playing this game where you have to apply your hearing skills, as you are blindfolded. Despite this being new to me, it really helped me to get motivated in helping the visually impaired community more. As I get to learn more about them, the more I want to help them. I will always be there to help this community, no matter what with my great commitment.
